چکیده

This study evaluated the methods of grafting commercial catechin with fatty acids, namely capric acid (C10), lauric (C12), and myristic (C14) through esterification. Specimens beech wood (Fagus sylvatica L.) were impregnated modified catechin-fatty separately, at a 5% concentration diluted in ethanol using vacuum pressure treatment subjected to leaching. The weight percentage gain before leaching (WPG), after (WPGAL), loss due (PL) investigated. Both leached unleached samples tested against white-rot fungi (Trametes versicolor) Petri-dishes for twelve weeks. Results show that treated acids provide improved resistance towards Catechin-C14 was found be more promising, possibly its chain length. decay does not differ significantly between not. Despite antifungal properties catechin, alone insufficient protect from fungi. Further, it is recommended increase level obtain significant effect on resistance.

Wood Liquefaction and its Application to Novolac Resin

Wood liquefaction was conducted using phenol as a reagent solvent with a weak acid catalyst in two different reactors: (Alma et al., 1995a.) an atmospheric glass reactor and (Alma et al., 1995b.) a sealed Parr reactor. Residues were characterized by wet chemical analyses, Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The FT-IR spectra of the liquefied wood residu...

construction and validation of translation metacognitive strategy questionnaire and its application to translation quality

like any other learning activity, translation is a problem solving activity which involves executing parallel cognitive processes. the ability to think about these higher processes, plan, organize, monitor and evaluate the most influential executive cognitive processes is what flavell (1975) called “metacognition” which encompasses raising awareness of mental processes as well as using effectiv...

Acetylation of wood – A review

Wood is a porous three dimensional, hydroscopic, viscoelastic, anisotropic bio-polymer composite composed of an interconnecting matrix of cellulose, hemicelluloses and lignin with minor amounts of inorganic elements and organic extractives. Some, but not all, of the cell wall polymer hydroxyl groups are accessible to moisture and these accessible hydroxyls form hydrogen bonds with water. As the...

The formation of wood and its control.

Wood continues to increase in importance as a sustainable source of energy and shelter. Wood formation is a dynamic process derived from plant secondary (radial) growth. Several experimental systems have been employed to study wood formation and its regulation. The use of genetic manipulation approaches and genome-wide analyses in model plants have significantly advanced our understanding of wo...
